Welcome to UK Hitlist. The purpose of this website is to allow you, the UK public, a say in your favourite singles. Of course, there is the official UK top 40, but this is of course based on sales. The main flaw with this is that unless you buy your favourite record every week, your vote only counts once.

This is where UK Hitlist steps into the breach. You as an individual have the right to vote once a week in the chart. You are permitted to vote for any five tracks from a single which:

a) have been released in the last month
b) have been placed in the official top 40 single sales chart in the last month
c) are due to be released in the next month, and are therefore receiving airplay

Once a track is no longer within the month boundary, you cannot vote for it unless it is re-released. This allows a track to have one month before its release, one month after its exit from the chart, as well as however long it spends in the UK Top 40, if any.

THIS IS THE BEAUTY OF THIS CHART! VOTE FOR *ANY* SINGLE WHICH HAS BEEN RELEASED IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS!

You may vote for any five singles in one week, and they will receive marks based upon your preference. A track which you name as your favourite in that week will receive a score of 5, and the fifth will receive a score of 1. All your five selections must be for different tracks, although they can be from the same single. Different dance mixes are not counted at present, however. If an individual chooses the same track as more than one selection, all five of their selections will be penalised. If an individual chooses more than one dance mix of the same track their selections will also be penalised. However, should different individuals vote for different mixes, the votes are collated and the song title track itself will be credited with the placing and score.

UK Hitlist is currently in its infancy. The technology being used is very simplistic, and all entries are received by e-mail and manually recorded and logged, by one person only. It is for this reason that the charts are not updated constantly. In the future I hope to move to a server where I can use CGI to log all choices instantly. Please do not abuse this site and what it stands for - it is a site for the people and I would like it to remain so. I do not believe in forcing things onto people, but in order to provide a better service by using a new domain name, I need money to finance it, and you can aid me in this solely by clicking on the banner below. As soon as the page loads, you can press back on your browser to return here. I receive 20 cents (about 10p) for each click, so if you do it every time you visit this site, the site will soon become much better and the banner will no longer be needed. Thankyou.
